I know, I know technically last weekend was the first weekend. However, I don’t really see how you can have a weekend without a week of work and I wasn’t working last week so this is the first weekend of 2016. Here, we’ve got a winter storm on the horizon where the rain we’re getting now will soon turn to snow (3+ inches by Sunday I think). Thankfully, my plans pretty much are to be home and doing things inside. I’ve got a roof to finish (Shau, it’ll be done tomorrow with pics :-)), a Christmas tree to bring down, and a crawlspace/basement to get organized. We’ll see what happens once I finish all that up. I expect the rest of the day to be pretty light with some TV, reading, and/or video games. Of course, I’ll fit some writing in there somewhere and keep up with the programming to boot. I guess when I put it like that, I’ve got a pretty eventful weekend ahead of me 🙂
I guess the only thing that bothers me is that this feels very much like a continuation of 2015. I shouldn’t really worry about that as 2015 was a pretty awesome year with a few major exceptions (losing my father in lawn and one of my closest friends still impacts me). So far, I’m writing and coding which are two things I didn’t do last year but beyond that I’m pretty much doing the same thing. A part of me is yelling, saying that I should be doing something to make 2016 better but another part of me is saying that I wouldn’t mind a year to match. I mean, honestly, do you really have to get better every year? Coudn’t I just maintain the status quo and be happy with that.
In the end, 2016 will continue and eventually I’ll be looking at 2017 and wondering where the time went and perhaps even writing a blog about the first weekend. The best I can hope for, I think, will be to look back on the year and be able to smile and most of it and nod at the rest.
Til then…
